Goal

To find a noble company aspiring to bridge the gap to bring technology to people who need it

Hello! My name is Aleis Murphy, I am a second year graduate student at Duke University, majoring in Software Engineering. I have known since sophomore year of high school, after my introduction into the field with AP Computer Science AB, that I want to pursue a career in the field of technology.

As I have progressed through my education at Duke, I have discovered a mutual interest in business. Technology should be created with the user in mind. What good is a product if it does not fill the needs of the customer?

Whether it be through optimizing user experience or managing product placement, I am very interested in bridging the gap between the customer and the development of technology in order to produce the highest quality product, both for the customer as well as the company.

Aleis Murphy has been aspiring young girls to pursue computer science through her programming workshop and the Aspirations in Computing grant

I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to share my love for computer science with other incredible females. The Alice Programming Workshop that my sisters and I run has given me the chance to encourage and inspire young girls to explore computing. NCWIT has provided me a platform to present my work and spread my passion for IT to groups of women in technology at venues such as the Grace Hopper Convention. Often even a single conversation conversation can make a difference. I spoke with a friend over brunch midway through freshman year who was apprehensive about computer science and encouraged her to give it a try. She is now a software developer. I would love the opportunity to share this experience and perspective in a large organization that is reaching out to the world.

My study abroad experiences have made a lasting impression and lasting friendships.  Although Duke is an amazing place to go to school, I would not trade the two summer semesters I spent studying in Greece and Australia.
